Many of us take our bathroom lighting for granted. We go into the room, flick a switch, and voila, we have light. But if we really stop to think about it, lighting can have many uses, other then the obvious one of illuminating our way. Stand-alone lamps that can be battery operated can also give a nice finishing touch for around the bathtub or on the vanity area.

When refitting a bathroom, many people choose to have the nice effect of matching light fittings to the faucets or cabinet handles. This can be achieved through things like all brass attachments, or even matching wood or glass ones. This can also be a clever design tip when someone wants to refurbish or decorate a bathroom. Simply adding new accent points such as lights can make a room seem cleaner and ultimately newer.

Proper use of bathroom lighting can also make what can be the smallest room in the house feel a lot larger than it actually is. Many bathrooms tend not to have large windows, and if they do then for privacy reasons, they are usually of frosted or stippled glass, and they are also usually covered to some extent by window treatments such as blinds. Sensible and practical placement and design of lighting fixtures can make the world of difference to what has the potential of being a somewhat dark place.
